Soho House Mykonos: A Blend of Texture, Calm, and Timeless Design

Visiting Soho House Mykonos in May 2023 reminded me of the beauty of balance in design. From the moment I arrived, I was surrounded by spaces that felt effortless yet considered—where traditional touches meet modern calm, and every detail works together to create a timeless feel.

A First Impression of Simplicity and Elegance

As I stepped out of the car, the colour palette of white and blue, softened by hints of clay tones, instantly set the tone for what was to come. The architecture, with its soft curved lines, gave the space a sense of movement and flow, blending beautifully with the natural surroundings. At the entrance, black art deco lights framed the doorway perfectly, adding just the right amount of contrast. Outside, oversized clay pots surrounded by lush greenery added character, proving how simplicity, when done well, can have an enormous impact.

Warmth and Texture in the Reception Area

Walking into the reception, I was struck by the calmness of the space. The muted pink plastered walls created a sense of softness, perfectly paired with open shelves that added playful bursts of colour—blue vases and earthy pots that balanced tradition and modernity beautifully. It’s a space that feels grounded and relaxed while still being carefully thought out.

A Room That Balances Modern and Rustic Charm

My room continued the theme of balance and texture. A standout stone sink brought rustic charm, while angled light fittings cast soft, shifting shadows, adding depth and intrigue. The textiles, with their subdued colour palette, tied everything together, creating a sense of calm and harmony.

The use of weathered wooden furniture alongside modern accessories struck the perfect balance between old and new. It felt lived-in yet luxurious, with every piece chosen to complement the space.

The Pool Area: Where Relaxation Meets Design

Moving outside to the pool area, the design shifted seamlessly. Smooth light grey plaster, paired with touches of light wood and rattan, created a space that felt relaxed but undeniably polished. It’s a perfect example of how natural materials can elevate a space while keeping it grounded.

And then there were the views—expansive and breathtaking, offering the deep blue of the Aegean Sea and the surrounding beauty of Mykonos. It’s a space designed to be enjoyed, to linger, and to let the setting inspire you.

Design That Embraces Shape and Texture

My visit to Soho House Mykonos was a reminder of what great design can achieve. It’s about creating spaces that feel as good as they look—where textures, colours, and thoughtful details come together to shape an experience. Leaving Mykonos, I felt recharged and inspired, ready to bring this same sense of balance and timeless calm to my own designs.
